Week Two EOC: Supreme Court

The issue of Abortion Rights that is on the docket for this session is a law in Oklahoma, regulates the doctor’s ability to prescribe a medication (RU-486) to terminate early pregnancies. With this law it is a crime to deviate from the FDA-approved dosage and time limits of the drugs, even though physicians admit to regularly induce abortions medically with a combination of drugs. With this alternative it is less expensive, simpler and not to mention it is also safer for the woman. While this is formally added it has been put on hold while they get all the information they need from the lower courts. This is also the first of several very restrictive laws for abortion nationwide to be reviewed. They is also going to be a separate appeal for free-speech challenge by anti-abortion protesters for a Massachusetts law that permits a buffer or exclusion zones around buildings and facilities that perform abortions.
While I have never been in the position to have to think about the option of having an abortion, personally I would not have one, but I support the woman’s right to choose. To choose what happens to her own body because it is HER body. I understand that it needs to be regulated to a certain degree because there are people who try and use abortions as a form of birth control but for a person who has little means or is truly not able to take care of a child, why bring that child in to the world? I think everyone can agree to a certain point that some people should simply not be parents or be able to care for a child. There are already too many children stuck in foster care with no hope of being adopted for x amount of reasons. So for a procedure that not only is safer but less expensive is a crime is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.
